Overview
Modern gas masks are still built around activated charcoal, a 20th-century solution facing 21st-century threats. Chemical accidents, wildfires, aerosols, biological agents, and radioactive dust exceed the functional limits of charcoal filters in weight, lifetime, humidity tolerance, and particle capture. ARBOK introduces a next-generation gas mask filtration system based on thermally expanded graphite (TEG) — a multilayer graphene structure with an exceptionally high active surface area. The result is a lightweight, reusable, moisture-resistant filter cartridge designed for real-world CBRN conditions. This is not a cosmetic redesign but a material-level replacement of obsolete filtration logic.
Traditional activated-charcoal filters weigh 200–300 g, last 20–60 minutes in harsh conditions (4–8 hours in mild ones), collapse in humidity, are ineffective against viruses, spores, and sub-0.1 μm aerosols, fail above 50 °C, are single-use, and occupy 0.4–0.6 L with poor ergonomics and breathing resistance.
Applications
Protection against toxic industrial chemicals and warfare agents; combustion products and wildfire smoke; viruses, bacteria, and fungal spores; radioactive dust and fine aerosols. Users: emergency responders, industrial workers, and military personnel — civilian and military CBRN applications.
Operating Principle
The filter material is produced from natural graphite via thermal expansion, forming a hydrophobic, high-surface multilayer graphene structure. The material maintains filtration efficiency even when wet, unlike charcoal, due to intrinsic hydrophobicity. Particle capture efficiency reaches up to 98% for particles below 0.2 μm. Filters are regenerable on site for up to 30 cycles.

Architecture and Components
TEG (thermally expanded graphite) filter element; filter housing manufactured from lightweight polymer or composite materials with impact resistance, fire resistance, electromagnetic interference suppression, and corrosion immunity — enabling operation in technologically dense and hostile environments.
Advantages
Weight reduced from 200–300 g to 30–50 g; volume reduced from 0.4–0.6 L to 0.05–0.2 L. Lifetime up to 80 hours versus 20–60 minutes (harsh) or 4–8 hours (mild) for charcoal — field lifetime exceeded charcoal equivalents by ~20×. Operating temperature up to 450 °C versus charcoal failure above 50 °C. Performance unaffected by humidity. Effective against viruses, spores, and sub-0.2 μm aerosols. Reusable with up to 30 regeneration cycles instead of single-use disposal. Environmental: reusable filters reduce waste volume; end-of-life disposal via thermal treatment; no chemical impregnation or hazardous residues.

Deployment & Operation
Filters can be replaced in seconds. Mobile production units fit inside a 10-ft container and are operable on diesel power, enabling decentralized manufacturing and crisis-zone supply, reducing logistical dependency and accelerating emergency response. On-site regeneration performed successfully in field deployments.
TRL
Field-tested. The system was deployed in 2023–2024 under real conditions — Chernobyl Exclusion Zone and active frontline chemical exposure zones. Observed results: filter lifetime exceeded charcoal equivalents by ~20×; on-site regeneration performed successfully; stable performance under extreme contamination and humidity. These were operational deployments, not laboratory simulations. Compliance confirmed with NIOSH 42 CFR 84 (USA), NATO AEP-54, and EN 14387 (EU). [числовой уровень TRL — требует уточнения из базы]
